A more solitary version of the tradition drawing down the moon ritual. Where it says Priest ,if you are a female you just do the action and visa versa
Altar: Decorate with things that evoke images of the Goddess such as lunar crescents etc. Use water, preferably rainwater or spring water that has been left overnight in the moonlight.
Light Goddess (white), God (green) and Fire candles, also quarter candles.
This ritual can be adapted for use by a female solitary Wiccan or a male solitary Wiccan or partners.
Cast circle.
Priest forms circle with stick using the consecration words that you prefer.
GROUND AND CENTER
Placing athame vertically into the salt say:
"I bless this salt that it be used in our circle
In the name of the Lady and Lord I bless this salt"
Pick up some salt and put it into the water. Put three lots into the water. Put your athame vertically in the water bowl and stir deosil three times saying:
"I consecrate and bless this water that it be purified for use in our circle
In the name of the Lady and Lord I bless this water"
In the case of a partnership this part can be shared - the Priest takes round the male elements Air and Fire; the Priestess takes round the female elements Earth and Water.
Pick up the salty water and carry it round the circle deosil starting from the North or East and as you walk round sprinkle it round the edge of the circle and say:
"With Water and with Salt I consecrate this circle."
Take incense burner round the circle saying:
"With Air I consecrate this circle"
Pick up the fire candle and pass it round the circle saying:
"With Fire I consecrate this circle"
Now call the quarters. Again this can be shared if this is for a partnership.
"Guardian of the East, Sacred spirit of Air,
(visualise wind e.g. trees blowing in the wind.)
Winds of change, blowing on our faces, through our hair, through the leaves of the trees.
I call you to our circle.
And we bid you Hail and Welcome."
"Guardian of the South, Sacred spirit of Fire,
(visualise maize field or bonfire bursting into flame)
Warmth and comfort of the hearth, the burning desire, sustenance of all life.
I call you to our circle.
And we bid you Hail and Welcome."
"Guardian of the West, Sacred spirit of Water,
(visualise flowing stream, or waves breaking on a stony beach)
The peace of the womb, refreshing and cleansing, Binding all and freeing.
I call you to our circle.
And we bid you Hail and Welcome."
"Guardian of the North, Sacred spirit of Earth,
(visualise the solid earth or a forest)
Age old power of the Oak, Center of existence.
I call you to our circle.
And we bid you Hail and Welcome."
Now say:
"The circle is cast. We are now between the Worlds
Beyond the bounds of time
Where day and night, Birth and death, Joy and Sorrow
Meet as one."
Now this is the difficult part. If you are a solitary female then carry out the invokation to the Goddess (drawing down the moon). If you are a partnership then the Priest draws down the Goddess into the Priestess and the Priestess draws down the God into the Goddess. Do not draw down Pan. If you are a solitary male worker then draw down the God into yourself in order to worship the Goddess.
It is best to remove your robe(s) at this point and work skyclad. The Priest and Priestess must be prepared for being a vessel to hold the God and Goddess. If you are a partnership then give each other the five-fold kiss. If you are a solitary then give yourself a five-fold kiss using the words:
"Blessed be my feet that brought thee to this place". Holding two fingers together kiss them and touch each of your feet.
"Blessed be my knees that kneel at the holy altar". Kiss fingers and touch each knee.
(for a Priestess) "Blessed be my vagina, the gates of life" (kiss fingers and touch vagina)
(for a Priest) "Blessed be my phallus, the staff of life". (kiss fingers and touch penis)
"Blessed be my breasts formed in beauty" (kiss fingers and touch left breast) "and in strength" (touch right breast)
"Blessed be my lips that speak the sacred words." (kiss fingers only).
INVOCATION TO THE GODDESS (spoken by the Priest if a partnership)
"Lady, young and free,
Who brings forth the green buds of spring,
We call upon you in your ancient Names:
Ostara, Ishtar, Diana, Freya, Isis, Shatki. We call upon you, friend of times far ancient,
Descend into this the body of your Priestess."
Solitary: assume the Goddess position (arms by your side but slightly forward, palms facing forwards) and feel the Goddess enter your body. Partnership: Always allow your partner time for the Goddess to enter her.
INVOCATION TO THE GOD (spoken by the Priestess if a partnership)
"Lord of the greenwood,
Who causes the seed to grow.
We call upon you in your ancient Names:
Kernunnos, Adonis, Odin, Osiris, Shiva. We call upon you, friend of time far ancient,
Descend into this the body of your Priest."
Solitary: assume the Osiris position (arms crossed over your chest) and feel the God enter your body. Partnership: Always allow your partner time for the God to enter him.
Now the scene is set. What do you do?
If you are a solitary then kneel in front of your altar and worship the Goddess or God within you; feel Her/His presence. Your skin might tingle and your genitals will probably feel more sensitive. Draw up energy through your root chakra if you know how to do it. Next, if you are a solitary then turn your attention outwards towards the Goddess. If you can see the moon then gaze up at Her. Adore Her; adore Gaia, Mother Earth and everything you feel the Goddess is.
If you are a partnership then kneel facing each other. Allow the God and Goddess to make contact by holding hands. Feel the energy flow out of your right hands and into your left hands, circulating between you.
Solitary: take some wine (may also use apple juice) and pour it into the chalice. Kneel before the altar and take the chalice in both hands, holding it away from you and say:
"Great Mother, I bless this apple juice in your name.
Infused with your love I drink of it,
Partnership: Priestess take some wine (may also use apple juice) and pour it into the chalice. Kneel facing your Priest and take the chalice in both hands, holding it towards him. Priest: take your athame and plunge it into the wine. Either one of you can then say:
"As the cup is to the female so the athame (or blade) is to the male.
"Lance to Grail, As above, so below."
Replace athame on the altar. Priestess takes a drink, faces Priest and kisses him on the lips then passes the chalice to him. He takes a sip, kisses the Priestess and passes it back to her. Repeat this once then replace the cup on the altar.
Now you are ready to open the circle again:
First dismiss the Guardians:
"Guardians of the East, we thank you for your presence here
And we bid you hail and farewell."
Blow out the East (yellow) candle.
"Guardians of the South, we thank you for your presence here
And we bid you hail and farewell."
Blow out the South candle.
"Guardians of the West, we thank you for your presence here
And we bid you hail and farewell."
Blow out the West candle.
"Guardians of the North, we thank you for your presence here
And we bid you hail and farewell."
Blow out the North candle.
Now take your stick and draw it round the circle widdershins (counter-clockwise/anti-clockwise/counter sun-wise) and as you do so visualize drawing back the energy field into your stick.
All say:
"The circle is open but unbroken.
Merry meet and merry part and merry meet again."
Take the remaining wine or juice out of doors for the libation.
"Hail Earth, Mother of all!
May your fields increase and flourish,
Your forests grow and spread,
And your waters run pure and free!
Accept our offering, O Earth Mother!
Bring forth that which is good and sustaining
For every living thing."
