Due to some recent events, I thought this would be a good debate. Do you believe that if someone takes what you post and uses it elsewhere that it is Copyright infringement, even though they have cited the web address? After everyone feels they have said their views here, I will post a copy of the copyright laws here for everyone to read, so that you will all know them.
Personally, I do believe without proper citation that it would be considered copyright infringement.

You may not be able to tell, but I taught senior English at one time. That's right, that means term papers. If a proper citation is not used, we could legitimately give the student a 0 for plagiarism. In addition, changing the words around a tiny bit is also considered plagiarism. The student could either understand the information and put it into his or her own words or properly cite the source. Vixen, when I've given you my sources in my assignments I know I did not cite them correctly; I was lazy and did not want to give a running bibliography. Students were allowed to use websites, and even those had to be cited correctly or again, plagiarism steps into the situation. Reflecting, I think since you did not give your permission for your information to be used, a website is NOT a term paper, I think it is possible for some copyright infringement to exist. As a poet I have written poetry and had more than one "friend" take more than one poem and claim it as their own. That absolutely chapped my backside to the point of rage. That was my intellectual property just as are my journals. They belong to no one but me. In answering your question, no I don't think taking material from your website without your permission and/or without it being cited is not cool.

I am will Sullen on this. I just recently finished my 1401 and 1402 English classes, and citing was a HUGE part of our grade when it came to papers. If we did not use proper citation then it was considered failing and plagerism (our teacher went so far as to tell us that if we did not properly cite our sources it was considered plagerism and we would be in serious legal trouble, she said she would file reports with the school and the legal offices in town. needless to say she was a stickler for citing).

A post of mine was "copied" and posted on another site, wherein I was ridiculed. Called a liar, and a "fake". All because what I had posted on Divine Spirits about something that happened over fifty years ago. Taken totally out of context. That is the danger of "copying", even if the source is cited. It can so easily be misconstrued. The theology of hundreds of years ago, such as that of Isaac Newton, would seem like nonsense today.
