What do you think of when you think of dragons?

Many seem to believe in dragons on an astral level. For myself, I believe they are mythical creatures that do not, and never did, exist.

I think anything is possible on an astral level, no matter how unrealistic. Dragons have a specific energy, but I think it's how we perceive them that gives them certain vibrations. I do not believe they physically exist or existed. Now if they start finding fossils of them, then I'll change my mind, but till then, i'll stick with my astral beliefs, lol.

When I think of Dragons I think of fantasy and escapism and think they embody courage, strength and power, as with any mythical creature they can represent what ever you views are geared too to-wards a certain creature, every-ones views may be slightly different but certain mythical creatures will always have a universal meaning as in Unicorns embodying innocence and purity. As to wither they have their place in magick?, everything has a place! If it's what you believe, because when it comes down to it at the end of the day, It's your mind and your energy that gives whatever you create power. And if creating or dreaming about a Dragon or Unicorn (or any mythical creature) to help you find help with things in your life, then I see nothing wrong with it, there's a reason that so many fairy stories have mythical creatures in them, they remind us to keep a youthful spirit when you think anything is possible, well thats my view anyway The closest we've properly ever came to real physical ones on this planet is the dinosaurs Lol! For me, and this is only my opinion, when I think of dragons I dont think of either a mythological nor a metaphysical being. I think of the "Human" capacity for an "Epic" scale of power, courage, strength. Sorry if that sounds silly ^_^

But what I mean is, a dragon is a human ideology, say perhaps, even a psychiatric helpline. Reinforcing one's desperate will to believe in the presence of these desirable qualities; Courage, power, strength.

In a sense, I agree with diviner. In England we have the image of St George slaying a dragon. Pure myth of course, but an illustration of "power".

That's funny, Brysing. My son just finished reading "St. George and the Dragon". I also believe that anything can take place on an astral level. However, the komodo dragon is real, although not flying or fire breathing. I do not think dragons were ever fire breathing. That is besides the point. The komodo dragon lumbers about and tolerates what it will.

The Komodo is a very large lizard. In no way does it resemble the mythical dragon, with wings, breathing fire, and devouring maidens!

Ha. You're right, Brysing. It does not physically resemble mythical dragons who devour maidens. I only mean it is similar as an alligator is similar to a dinosaur. I hope that makes sense. Excuse this post, Sullen is sleepy. In my opinion, the Komodo is the closest thing living that we have to a dragon. Perhaps my mind is not as open as it should be yet.

i think of dragons as real never imagined, and every religion shares 1 thing in common dragons, I believe they exist now and forever , and just because they exist in astral does not mean they lack existence, in the realm of Ideas a place described by plato as being where the concepts and building blocks from which all know ideas emanate. these ideas had to exist before in some form for us to know about them , for man is not powerful enough to imagine the unknown ,

I don't discredit anyone's belief in dragons because I can see them for myself in a museum or zoo.
You see, "draco" or "dragon" in english translation was once used to refer to any reptile, especially snakes. The word for dragon in germanic traditions literally means "worm" because they were believed to be giant serpent like worms that breathed fire. Some reptiles are known to spit acid like fluid that burns the skin.
I believe that long ago, some people in Asia (where dragon legends originated) found dinosaur bones and drew what they felt the creature had looked like. Not having the knowledge we do to find the age of bones, they probably believed it had recently died there and more were about.
So yes...there be dragons!
